Indigo Blue Eco Print Cotton Bandana - Naturally Dyed

Indigo Blue Eco Print Cotton Bandana - Naturally Dyed

Versatile and insanely comfy, our Indigo dyed, eco-printed, organic cotton bandanas are the perfect way to add some natural charm to any look. These blue beauties are eco printed using locally foraged leaves, and hand-dyed one by one. The true blues of vat-dyed indigo are complimented with leaf prints in earthy yellows, warm browns, and mossy greens. Eco-printing is a method of contact printing that involves laying leaves directly onto prepared fabric, and adding a mild solution of iron-water - either by pre-soaking the leaves or layering an iron soaked blanket on top of the leaves and fabric. The entire bundle is then rolled up and steamed. When heated, the iron (ferrous sulfate) interacts with naturally occurring tannins in the leaves, resulting in a direct print on the fabric.Measurements24"x24" square Dyestuff UsedIndigofera Tinctoria, LeavesBandana blanks come from Maiwa, and are 100% GOTS certified organic cotton. The cotton is grown in Nagpur (Central India) and spun & woven in Coimbature (South India). They are cut and sewn in Maiwa's design studio outside of Jaipur. Maiwa works directly with farmers, spinners, and weavers, and their manufacturing process - from farm to gin to production - is certified by SKAL and Solidaridad (independent certification groups based in the Netherlands). Please keep in mind that every piece is made-to-order, and some slight variation should be expected. We embrace this as part of the one-of-a-kind nature of natural dyeing.
  • Care

Naturally dyed pieces require a little bit of special care. Follow these instructions to maximize the life of your dyed product.

    • Minimize washing and exposure to prolonged direct sunlight, which can accelerate fading.

    • When necessary, hand wash in cool water using a pH neutral detergent, like ECOS or Seventh Generation Free & Clear.  You may also use diluted Dr. Bronners Castille Soap or Dawn Blue Dish Detergent in a pinch.

    • RInse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring). Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight.

    • Do not bleach.
